It's been a while since I wrote anything and now it's hard to organize in my head everything that has happened this summer. Heaven knows I didn't have the best memory before I had kids and now there's no hope. Here are some highlights of some of the fun things we did this summer.
The most recent thing that comes to mind is us buying a car. It has been a few years since we owned a car, not counting the one we have in Grenada. We sold our cars before we left for Grenada and that has been since Jan. 2007. So getting a car of my own was super exciting. We looked all over for one that would fit our family and our budget and I'm sure you can guess how easily that went. With the 3 kids we needed something that would fit all 3 carseats in the back but I didn't want a mini van and we really couldn't afford an suv, so the hunt began. We searched and searched and searched and then we finally found one that we liked. It is a 2007 Nissan Sentra. If you have 3 kids and are looking for a car any Nissan Sentra that is 2007 or newer has enough clearance in the back seat to fit 3 across. They all fit just fine! Anyway, so we found this car that I loved, it was even a manual transmission (I didn't know how to drive one and I wanted to learn). I got really excited when I saw that it was in our price range as well, even lower that blue book! But of course there was one down side..... It was in St. George! After days and days of searching and finding nothing we decided to go for the drive and buy the car. I know it sounds crazy, in fact the whole way down I kept saying I thought we were nuts, but we wanted the car and so we went for it. We got down there drove the car, signed the papers, paid the money, got the keys, and headed home. (after stopping at In and Out Burger. yum) We were home by 12:00 and I had a new car! Now we just need to sell our car in Grenada. haha.
Another super fun thing I did this summer was go to the Kenney Chesney concert. Jason's uncle called up the day of the concert and asked if we wanted to go. He said he MIGHT have tickets and that we could have them if he did. Of course I said YES, YES, YES!! (Kenney Chesney sings mine and Jason's song Me and You) As it turned out he did get the tickets and my friend and I went to the concert together. It was really fun and entertaining. The best part of the night was when he sang Me and You. Before he sang it he told us that before he was big he sent his music out and Utah was the first place to play his song, and not just once but over and over again during one weekend. He attributes the start of his career to that weekend on Utah radio. He said that he hasn't sung the song in concert in over 6 years but he was going to sing it that night and it was Me and You! I started screaming and jumping up and down and made myself look like a complete idiot! Of course nobody there will remember they were all too drunk! haha. I called Jas and he got to hear it over the phone. It was a pretty awesome moment to hear our song sung in person by the artist.
The kids are growing and changing so much. The most obvious change is that Rori is walking now. She started walking nearly 3 weeks ago but her progress was slow because she was teething (she has her first tooth now!) and then she got an ear infection. It was hard for her to get her balance with her ear infection but since we have her on some medication she is walking EVERYWHERE! It has been so much fun watching her try to keep up with her brothers. Although I'm afraid she's going to need a bit more practice before she will be able to do that.
Our ward split this summer and we got put in a brand new ward. I had been quite happy with my non calling status in the other ward but that did not last. The ward had only been in place for about 9 days when I got a call. I was asked to be in the Nursery. I have been in Primary since I got married. The only other calling I've had was to lead the music during sacrament meeting. Other than that I have been in Primary. I even helped the nursery leader in Grenada (but this wasn't my actual calling) So far it's been pretty good. I had to teach the first 3 weeks but now I am able to trade off with other teachers so most of the time I just get to play with the kids. The kids are so deligtful and I am finding myself already getting really attached to them.
This summer has been filled with camping, parades, parties, friends, bbq's, swimming, working on the basement, watching movies, doctor appointments, and school prep. It's hard to think that the summer is pretty much over. In less than 2 weeks Dyson will be headed off to his first day of school. The rooms in the basement are done and I began the task of moving in last night. There is much organizing to do but when it's done it will be a nice place to retreat.
I hope you all have had a good summer full of fun, food, and family.
